Rooting and Uprooting

My life emerging like mushrooms from decay

6 December
In the Prairie-Forest Borderlands of Turtle Island, I turn over rocks and peer under logs looking for Roots. I grow beets, kale, garlic, and other delicious nurishment, stopping to watch butterflies drift past and listen to birds calling. I gather nettles and wild raspberries, and return my nutrients to the earth through compost. I speak with the gnomes and foxes, sing with the ambitions gone feral and turned to dreams.

My partner and I are about to embark on a long-distance bicycle trip from North Carolina to Maine. I'll be writing about it via www.crazyguyonabike.com/freerangecycling.
